To provide a high quality and innovative instructional setting that ensures all students are prepared for today’s globally competitive environment.

Major responsibilities of the department include:

  • Maintain and revise the Pre-K–12 curriculum to ensure alignment with North Carolina’s Standard Course of Study, including Common Core Standards and the North Carolina Essential Standards in the following areas:
    • Career and Technical Education
    • Fine Arts
    • Health and Physical Education
    • English, History/Social Studies, and Foreign Language (Humanities)
    • Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC)
    • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
  • Provide direct support for instructional services that meet the needs of students through:
    • Advanced Studies
    • Pre-Kindergarten Programs
    • Remedial Education
    • Response to Instruction and Intervention
    • Virtual Learning
  • Support the design and delivery of customized learning experiences for students through:
    • Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
    • North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS)
  • Provide direct support for schools to facilitate effective implementation of Davidson County Schools'  K-12 curriculum alignment 2.0
  • Provide a framework for continuous achievement
  • Create and deliver professional learning that ensures fidelity of curriculum and research-based instructional strategies application across all schools
