Meet the School Counselor (& her fur baby - Henry)

I am so excited you are here!!  Actually, I'm excited that I am here!!

My name is Ms. Amy Hutto and I am the school counselor at Friedberg Elementary.  The 2024-2025 school year will be my second year here at Friedberg and my 14th as a school counselor.  Prior to becoming a school counselor, I was a kindergarten teacher (15 years).  I received my bachelor's degree in elementary education from The University of Tampa, in Tampa, Florida; where I am originally from. I began my teaching career in Tampa where I worked at several very challenging schools with very diverse populations. These experiences helped me to grow as an educator and a person. I moved to North Carolina in 2001, and continued my career as a kindergarten teacher working for the Winston Salem/Forsyth County school district. In 2006, I was selected as teacher of the year, at my school and I was also selected as a semi-district finalist for teacher of the year, for the entire school district. 

In 2010, I completed my post masters degree in professional school counseling from North Carolina A&T State University. That same year, I began the next phase of my career as an elementary school counselor. Over the past 14 years as a school counselor I have predominantly served elementary schools but I have also served middle school (on-line) and high school. However, elementary is where my heart is & where I belong! I currently reside in Winston Salem with my dog - Henry.

As a school counselor, I am here to help students blossom in their social/emotional development as well as support their academics.  To accomplish this, I teach monthly guidance lessons on various character traits/topics, offer individual and small group counseling, lunch bunches and collaborate with teachers to supplement academics.  I am here for any need that may arise; do not hesitate to contact me for anything you need help with.  I look forward to working with all of our students this year, our parents and community!  :)
