Kindness Tuesdays

Welcome to Kindness Tuesdays!  Kindness is such an important character trait that we talk about in February, but is one we should be practicing each and every day!

“You leave home to seek your fortune and, when you get it, you go home and share it with your family.” –Anita Baker

Today, pick one family member and think about why they deserve kindness. Write them a sweet note with anything you want on it, maybe a compliment, or a reason you love them and put it somewhere they will find it during the day. (maybe on the fridge, on a mirror or on their computer for some ideas). Give them hints where your note is if they can't find it and make it a fun game!

Let's continue with our kindness journal today!  Here is today's kindness quote:

" “When you say ‘Yes’ to others make sure you are not saying ‘No’ to yourself.”
–Paulo Coelho

The challenge for today is to do 3 things that will make someone else happy.  At the end of the day ask yourself 'how did that make you feel?'  'how did it make the other person feel?'  If you didn't get a chance to do it, 'what got in the way?'

I want to try something new today!  Let's start a kindness journal!  Did you know that writing/journaling has many health benefits for your mental health?  Journaling reduces stress, anxiety, your heart rate, improves mood, positivity and energy!!  Look at those benefits!  Let's start today.  Grab a journal, or a piece of paper, and respond to the messages about kindness below.  If you are too young to journal, you can always draw pictures to respond to the questions as well!!  Get creative with it and adapt to your needs.  Sprinkle that kindness everywhere!!  It'll do just as much good for you as it will for others.

For today's kindness Tuesday, think about what it takes to make a new friend.  Have you ever had to make a new friend?  How about the time you first went to school?  How about when you started a new grade in a new classroom with a new teacher?  How about when you joined a sports or dance team?  Making friends and keeping them is a skill that is so important in our lives because staying connected with others helps lift our spirits and gives us caring hearts.  Since summer is quickly approaching, I want you to think about what you did this year to make friends in your class.  Were you nice, kind, helpful?  Did you make some good friends?  What could you do differently?  The answers to these questions can be different for everyone because we are all different as people!  But, we all need friends.  Being kind is one sure way that you will make friends in the future, just keep that in mind everyone!  :)  Watch Nemo on his first day of school in this video clip and see if he is able to make friends...

Today is teacher appreciation day!  For today's kindness Tuesday, pick a teacher that you have had or your current teacher and think of all the special things that person does for you. Try and think of something you could do for your teacher to give back to them!  This could be making a card, asking your parents if you can buy them a gift, making a special craft, asking your parents to send an email to your teacher with a letter you write to them...there are so many things you can do to show your appreciation.  Maybe even brainstorm ideas with a friend!  I promise you will make your teacher's day with your kind thoughts and gestures.  It makes you feel good to do good things for others too, that's called having a giving heart.  Practice having a giving heart always and with lots of other people in your life too!

For today's kindness Tuesday, try coloring this picture of a flower!  While you're coloring it, think of what kindness means to you.  Is it being nice to others?  Is it doing nice things for others?  Is it smiling at people?  What do you think about the word kindness?  Let's brainstorm some ideas while we color!  If you color lots of flowers, you can make your own kindness garden!

For today's kindness Tuesday send a card in the mail to someone you care about.  Hand write your card to show you really care about your person you're sending it to.  Make sure to sign your name so they know it's from you!  Tell them you're thinking about them, you love them, you miss them...whatever it is you want to say.  A heart-felt, handwritten note goes a long way in brightening someone's day.

Spring break, enjoy it!

Tuesday 4/7
Help your parent or sibling with something today!  Maybe do an extra chore, or help your parents with something you don't normally help them with (like cleaning up after dinner, or helping to sweep!)  When we help others we lift ourselves up too!  I always feel better when I make others smile, see if you can too, today!

For Tuesday, 3/31/20 try and give a compliment to at least 3 people in your life.  A compliment is something nice you say about someone else that comes from the heart.  You could give a compliment to a friend, a family member, a neighbor, a teacher, anyone!  Helping someone else smile is surely to help YOU smile.  Remember bucket filling?  A good way to know if you are practicing kindness is by filling others' buckets.  If you need help remembering what bucket filling is, click on this video to read the story!
