Friendship Wednesdays

Welcome to Friendship Wednesdays!  Let's be sure to keep in touch with our friends during the time school is closed so we can maintain those relationships and help us feel connected!

For today's friendship Wednesday, send a picture of your smiling face to a friend and tell them 3 reasons why they make you happy!

For today's friendship Wednesday, we're going to do something a little different.  We're going to continue with our kindness journal but relate our kindness activities to friendship along the way.  First, take a look at this quote:

“You’ve been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of
yourself and see what happens.” –Louise L. Hay

What do you think about that quote?  Reflect on it for a minute.
Now, answer this question: "why do you deserve kindness today?"  That's a pretty deep question if you think about it, so really think about it and journal why YOU deserve kindness today (hint, you always deserve it!!!).  Then, let's relate this to friendship.  Pick a friend...why does that friend deserve kindness today?  You can tell them why you think so, I'm sure it'll brighten their day!

For Friendship Wednesday today, think of one thing you can do to be a better friend to someone.  Maybe it's being kind, maybe it's making something for someone, maybe it's learning to forgive someone, maybe it's being happy to share!  Think of one positive thing that would make you an even better friend and write it down on a big heart!  Cut the heart out and then hang it somewhere that will remind you about the power of friendship every time you see it!

For today's friendship Wednesday, take a look at the fun sheet below with a cupcake on it!  Print off the cupcake and draw yourself some oval shapes on a separate sheet of paper.  These will be your sprinkles!  Write on the oval shapes things that you think make a good friend (examples could be: shares with me, is friendly, is kind, likes movies, plays with me, gives me good advice, helps me out when I'm sad, etc!).  Then, cut them out and glue the friendship sprinkles on your cupcake.  Share your 'cupcake' with a friend and tell them how they show all of those great friendship qualities!  As a bonus, you can also watch the video below about friendship, Peanut Butter and Cupcake!

For today's friendship Wednesday, ask a friend where their favorite place to go is.  They can pick anywhere they've been before that they enjoy visiting.  Maybe its the beach, maybe it's the mountains...maybe it's their grandmother's house.  There are so many places we go that we make fond memories at; it's nice to hear what makes other people happy!  After asking a friend what their favorite place is, tell your friend where your favorite place to visit is!

Today, pick a friend to do a scavenger hunt with.  If you can't be with a friend in person, pick a family member to practice with and you can do it with a friend when you see them again.  Think of a list of things you want to find inside or outside, maybe 20 things are BLUE.  Then go find them!  Also, when you are done, do a friendship scavenger hunt with your friend about them.  Answer these questions for your hunt:

What is your friend's favorite color?
Favorite food?
Favorite drink?
What is their age?
Have they been to the beach?
Have they been to the mountains?
Have they ever traveled outside North Carolina?
Have they ever lived somewhere besides NC?
What do they do for fun?
What is their favorite animal?
Do they have any pets?
Any brothers or sisters?

You can add more questions if you like!

Spring break, enjoy it!

Wednesday April 8th
Today, reflect on what qualities make a good friend.  Think of someone who is a good friend in your life; what made you want to be friends with them?  Are they nice, kind?  Do they listen to you?  Do they help you out?  Do they make you feel more positive when you're around them?  It's important to make sure the people we surround ourselves with are people that bring us up, not bring us down.  You have the power to create great friendships around you and you have the power to be a great friend!  Think about those qualities today.

For Wednesday, April 1st, try telling a friend why you are glad they are in your life.  You could call them, email them, or ask your parent to call them.  If calling is not an option, write down on a piece of paper why they are a great friend or draw them a picture to give them the next time you see them!
